Terms of Service

Welcome to NUR. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the NUR mobile app and this website (together, "NUR", the "Service"), operated by NUR ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

NUR is a companion app for prayer, Qur'an and Islamic learning, designed especially for new Muslims and reverts. It provides features such as prayer times, Qibla direction, a Qur'an reader, daily verses and supplications, beginner how-to lessons, reflections, and an in-app AI assistant.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use NUR. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use NUR only with the involvement of a parent or guardian. By using the Service you confirm that you meet these requirements.

3. Your account

• You are responsible for the information you provide and for activity under your account.
• Keep your login credentials secure. Authentication is handled by Amazon Cognito.
• Notify us promptly at support@nurcompanion.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
• Attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems;
• Misuse the AI assistant to generate unlawful, harmful, or abusive content;
• Copy, resell, or redistribute the Service or its content except as expressly permitted.

5. Religious and educational content

NUR's lessons, reflections, verses, and AI responses are provided for general educational and informational purposes. They are not a formal religious ruling (fatwa) and are not a substitute for guidance from a qualified scholar or your local imam. Practice and rulings can differ between schools of thought; for decisions affecting your personal situation, please consult a knowledgeable person directly.

6. Intellectual property

The NUR name, app, website, design, and original content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Certain religious texts are provided under their own terms: the Qur'anic Arabic is sourced from Tanzil.net (used unchanged, under CC BY 3.0), and English translations are used under their respective licences with attribution. You may use NUR for your own personal, non-commercial learning.

7. The AI assistant

The in-app assistant is powered by Amazon Bedrock and generates responses automatically. It can be inaccurate or incomplete and should not be relied upon as authoritative religious, legal, medical, or financial advice. Always verify important matters with a qualified person.

8. Third-party services

NUR relies on third-party providers (including Amazon Web Services for authentication, email, storage, and AI). Your use of the Service may also be subject to those providers' terms. We are not responsible for third-party services we do not control.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NUR and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service.

11. Termination and account deletion

You may stop using NUR at any time and request deletion of your account and associated data via our account deletion page or by emailing us. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or misuse the Service.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notified in the app. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in that State.
